Greeneville High School girls’ basketball coach Annette Watts learned Thursday that she had received recognition from the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA).

Watts, about to begin her fifth season at the helm of the Lady Devils, was named the District 1 Female Coach of the Year under the governing body’s A.F. Bridges Awards program for the 2016-17 academic year.

“It is a very fitting award for Annette to receive,” Greeneville High principal Patrick Fraley said. “She is always composed, professional and represents our school in a positive manner.”

“We are very fortunate to have a coach of Annette’s caliber leading our Lady Devils basketball program.”

Watts led Greeneville to its first district championship since 2008 last season. The Lady Devils finished the year with a 28-12 overall record, falling one game short of the state tournament with a sectional loss to Gatlinburg-Pittman.
