Club Descriptons

GHS Clubs Spring 2023

Anime Club – Mrs. Dykes, sponsor

Anime Club welcomes all members who are interested in the Japanese art form of anime. Students will watch films, play games, create comics, and discuss their passion for anime. 

 

Board Game Club – Mrs. J Miller, sponsor

Board Game Club will introduce players to strategy games that invite interaction and engagement. Limited to 24 students per club meeting. 

 

Chess/Checkers Club – Mr. Goltra, sponsor

This club provides a place for students to meet for chess and checkers competitions. 

 

Debate Club – Mr. Salyer, sponsor

This club will be choosing a topic that is prevalent in our society for each meeting. Students will explore and discuss each issue during club time. Club members will choose and lead this discussion with Mr. Salyer acting as a facilitator. 

 

CyberPatriot Club – MSgt. Durden and Maj. Stabiler, sponsors

Part of the National Youth Cyber Education Program, this club is sponsored by the US Air Force and open to all GHS JROTC cadets. At the center of CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. This competition puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. In the rounds of competition, teams are given a set of virtual images that represent operating systems and are tasked with finding cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the images and hardening the system while maintaining critical services in a six-hour period. Teams compete for the top placement within their state and region, and the top teams in the nation earn all-expenses paid trips to Baltimore, MD for the National Finals Competition where they can earn national recognition and scholarship money. 

 

FCA – Coach Painter, sponsor

The FCA Vision: To see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.

The FCA Mission: To present to coaches and athletes, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church.  There will be regular meetings and other activities throughout the year. 

 

GHS Coin and Currency Club – Mr. Zimmerman, sponsor

This club is for students who have a passion for coin and currency collecting. We will share collecting ideas and discover how coins and currency can tell a lot about the history of a country. We hope to put together an exhibit each year of coins/currency as we explore this unique and fascinating hobby. 

 

GHS FIRST Robotics Club – Dr. Pauley, sponsor

GHS FIRST Robotics (#6302) is part of the FIRST Robotics Competition. We meet during all club times (1&3 and 2&4 although we are flexible with other club commitments) throughout the year and after school once per week until build season in January. The meetings will then begin to be several times a week after school until the 6 week build season is over. The objective of the club is to build and program a task specific robot to compete in the regional FRC competition held each year at the University of Tennessee Knoxville campus in March. If we qualify, we will then travel to the World competition which changes location every year. To learn more about FIRST and to see the competition in action search FRC on Youtube. 

 

GHS Student Council and Class Officers – Ms. Ward, sponsor

The student council and class officers help share students' ideas, interests, and concerns with teachers and school principals. They help organize and run school-wide activities, social events, community projects, helping people in need, and influence school reform. The members of the student council and class officers are elected by the student body. There is a fee for a t-shirt. 

 

Greene Devils Baseball Club –Coach Collins and Coach Everhart, sponsors

This club is open to all current baseball team members to provide an opportunity for players to discuss past and upcoming games. 

 

GSA (Gender and Sexuality Alliance) Club – Mrs. Acuff, sponsor

The purpose of the GSA Club is to promote acceptance and tolerance throughout GHS and to provide a safe, non-judgmental space as a support network for LGBTQ+ and all youth who share a common vision of social equality. 

 

Homework Club – Mrs. Rose, sponsor

This club is for anyone wanting a quiet space to work on homework. 

 

HUDL Club – Coach Spradlen and Coach Hansel, sponsors

HUDL Club is for students to review game film and work on HUDL highlights for college recruiting purposes.

 

Kitty Hawk Air Society – MSgt Durden, sponsor

Open to JROTC members who meet all the requirements of the National Honor Society. Members provide tutoring to local elementary school students.  Members are eligible to compete in scholastic competitions and earn scholarships. 

 

GHS Library Advisory Board & Podcasting Club – Mrs. Caton, sponsor

This club gives students a say as to what programs happen in the GHS Library. Members will discuss what books to purchase and what items to buy for the GHS Library Makerspace. This fall, this club began a monthly podcast where members discuss their favorite books and what they are currently reading. Members will also delve into current events regarding books and libraries. These podcasts will be posted on the GHS Library webpage for others to enjoy. If you enjoy reading and talking about books, this club is for you! 

 

National Honors Society (NHS) –Mrs. Stevans, sponsor

Open to qualified Juniors and Seniors only. Membership is by invitation by sponsors only. Seniors that served as Juniors last year and newly contacted Juniors may attend. Selection is based on four criteria: academic achievement, leadership, service, and character. Requires service to the community, school, or other organizations throughout the school year. 

 

Project 7 (P7) – Mrs. Carver and Mrs. Caton, sponsors

This club is a student-led Christian Bible club that is spiritually inspired, relationship oriented, and community serving. Students will join for Bible discussion with the mission of empowering students to be leaders in their school and to establish community among the student body. It is open to all students, and there are no fees or requirements to join. 

 

Round Robin – Mrs. Francis, sponsor

This club is for students who wish to compete in Round Robin, which is a jeopardy-style academic competition. Club meeting time will be used to practice and make arrangements for upcoming competitions. Round Robin will meet in March and April only. 

 

Supporting English Learners Club-Mrs. Powell

This club will allow any student interested in providing spoken social interactions with our English Language Learners to come together in a relaxed setting. Students will have the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends while crossing the language barrier. 

 

T.O.Y.S. (Teaching Our Youth Science) Club – Mrs. Propst, sponsor

This club is for anyone who loves working with kids and loves sciences. Students will visit kids at elementary schools, where they will teach science experiments. Requires an after-school commitment of 1 hour each week. Students earn community service hours.

 

Walk It Out Club – Mrs. M Miller, sponsor

For those who think they sit too much throughout the school day or want to get moving, Walk It Out can work through stress and help get some cardio in the day. This club is limited to 30.

 

Word Gamers Club – Dr. Leonard, sponsor

Join friends to play word games! This club will play Wordle, Quordle, Semantle, Words with Friends, and others.
