Radio Control Flight Club
Open to all GHS students. Learn to fly remote control airplanes and drones. Take free flight lessons with a certified flight instructor. Requires $10 in dues once per year to join the Nolichucky R/C Club for flight lessons.
Part of the National Youth Cyber Education Program, this club is sponsored by the US Air Force and open to all GHS JROTC cadets. At the center of CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. This competition puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. In the rounds of competition, teams are given a set of virtual images that represent operating systems and are tasked with finding cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the images and hardening the system while maintaining critical services in a six hour period. Teams compete for the top placement within their state and region, and the top teams in the nation earn all-expenses paid trips to Baltimore, MD for the National Finals Competition where they can earn national recognition and scholarship money.
Kitty Hawk Air Society – MSgt Durden, sponsor
Open to JROTC members who meet all the requirements of the National Honor Society. Members provide tutoring to local elementary school students. Members are eligible to compete in scholastic competitions and earn scholarships.
GHS Civil Air Patrol – MSgt Durden, sponsor
Open to JROTC students and those enrolled in the Aerospace Science Program. Members get free aircraft flights and are trained to assist in search and rescue operations.
