Serving proudly for over 100 years, Greeneville High School boasts a long tradition of excellence, while continuing to be a state and national leader in innovative educational best practice and student success. Nestled against the backdrop of the Appalachian Mountains, GHS is located in the historic town of Greeneville, Tennessee, the home of President Andrew Johnson. A study in juxtaposition, our renovated and expanded modern high school sits in the downtown area surrounded by the President's tailor shop and pre-Civil War mansions and churches, all within walking distance along brick sidewalks lit by gas lamps.

Greeneville High School has an enrollment of approximately 940 students ranging from grades 9 to 12 and is the only high school in the Greeneville City School system. In 2008, GHS was honored as a U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon School, the only high school in the state of Tennessee to be so honored in 2008. Our standardized academic achievement results and graduation rate of over 97% place GHS at the forefront of high achieving secondary schools in our state.

The programs of study offered at Greeneville High School serve all students. In addition to Advanced Placement (AP) courses, GHS partners with Walter's State Community College to offer dual enrollment courses for college credit, and the GEAP program where students may earn an Associate degree and high school diploma simultaneously. Credit recovery, Graduation Access Program (GAP), Freshman Academy, summer school, and before/after school tutoring programs are tools used by the school to meet the needs of all students.

Additionally, GHS and the Greeneville City School system strive to be leaders in providing an education that prepares our students to live and work in a global world. Therefore, our Virtual Technology classroom is opening up a whole new world for our students in shared learning with other schools and students across our region, nation, and internationally. Online course offerings, fully equipped Promethean classrooms, and a forward-thinking cellphone policy that allows teachers and students to use cellphones as learning tools are just a few additional examples of how GHS embraces technology.

Teachers work hand in hand with other teachers, students, and parents to enhance the educational environment. Each teacher is part of a team that collaborates every week. SchoolCast emergency alert system, teacher web pages, Parent Portal online grade access, and individual laptops have provided teachers with necessary technology to effectively communicate with parents and students.

Extra-curricular activities complete the picture of GHS. Clubs meet every other week with opportunities for students to grow by serving others. Multiple championship athletic teams; award winning chorus, band, Interactive Media and JROTC programs; along with Scholar's Bowl and Mock Trial teams are examples of opportunities for our students to excel at every level of competition. School spirit and school pride are evident at any venue of choice.
